Warts

Plantar-Warts.jpg

Warts (Verruca pedis) are contagious skin lesions that are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. The virus can be spread when the outer protective layer is broken, such as by minor trauma.

Established warts have a rough cauliflower-like appearance and will sometimes have little black dots. Warts on the feet can often make everyday activities uncomfortable because they press inwards on the sensitive nerves of the skin.

Treatment

may include:

> Debriding wart tissue to help reduce the size

> freezing of the wart tissue with cryotherapy

> phenolisation of wart tissue

> application of salicylic acid

> offloading affected areas to help reduce pain from everyday activity
