A correctly fitting shoe is extremely important to foot health.

  • Top tips for correctly fitting shoes
    • Make sure to leave approximately 1cm at the end of the shoe from the longest toe
    • Check the shape of the toe box of the shoe. If it is narrow and pointy then this may lead to problems
    • If you have wide feet seek out brands that use multiple width fittings
    • Go shopping at the middle to end of the day, as your feet tend to swell throughout the day
    • Avoid shoes that slip on and are low cut at the front (i.e. ballet flats) as they may cause compression issues around the front of your foot
    • Ensure that the shoe has an adjustable fastening device, such as laces, Velcro or a buckle
    • Avoid buying shoes that require ‘breaking in’
    • Ensure the shoe is deep enough for your toes
    • Make sure the shoe has a firm heel counter to provide extra support
    • Shoes should bend at the toes and not the midfoot
